Performing as part of the ‘Our Own & Beyond’ this Friday evening will be feature guitarists David Bathgate and Christian Ruiz, and vocalist Gabbey Dillon‑King.
Starting from 6pm, there will deliver solo performances, collaborations and what organisers describe as “unexpected delights”.
Mr Bathgate and Mr Ruiz are two of South West Music’s most recognisable educators, each bringing a distinct style to their teaching and performance work.
Mr Bathgate is known for his calm, technically grounded approach, helping students build confidence through steady progression.
“I love seeing that moment when something clicks for a student,” he said.
Mr Ruiz, whose lessons are marked by energy, rhythm and creativity, says the concert is a chance to show audiences the same passion he brings to the classroom.
“Music should feel exciting and alive. We want people to walk away feeling inspired.”
A homegrown vocalist and multi‑instrumentalist, Ms Dillon‑King joined the team this year.
She was raised in a musical family, and brings a warm, student‑led teaching style shaped by her background in creative arts and health.
She teaches vocals, guitar, ukulele and integrated instrumental lessons, and says her favourite part of teaching is “witnessing the musical growth of students in many areas, not just their ability.”
This Friday’s concert will not only highlight musicianship, but also the depth of skill within the conservatorium’s faculty.
Tickets are $20 for adults, with free entry for under‑18s, students and Concert Series subscribers.
Bookings are essential and can be made online via Humanitix, by phone on (03) 5881 4736, or by emailing concerts@swmusic.org.au.
