This Homelessness Action Week, starting Monday, August 4 and running until Sunday, August 10, Moira FoodShare is asking for your support in donating food and sanitary items.
Homelessness is hidden in plain sight, in our streets, our parks and in the towns we call home.
Moira FoodShare co-ordinator James Rouel said right now, more people than ever were going without a roof, a warm meal or basic dignity.
“In rural areas like ours, they’re too often forgotten,” he said.
“We see it every week — locals sleeping rough, living in cars, skipping meals. Unfortunately, it is all too common.
“You don’t stop needing to eat just because you lose your home, and we hope that Moira FoodShare offers a lifeline to the most vulnerable residents.”
Mr Rouel is seeking donations of canned goods, such as baked beans and soup, long-life milk, pasta, rice, cereal, muesli bars, snacks and personal hygiene products, including toothpaste, deodorant and soap.
Items can be dropped off at locations across the Moira Shire.
