Katamatite’s single-member police station will soon have a new, full-time tenant.
Victoria Police has confirmed it is internally recruiting for a permanent full-time officer to live and work out of the police station on Katamatite’s Beek St.
Wangaratta PSA Local Area Commander Inspector Ash Mason said while levels of crime in Katamatite remain very low, police are committed to keeping the community safe.
“Following the retirement of Katamatite Police Station’s sole officer, police from across the Moira region have continued to staff the station and maintain patrols to ensure ongoing community safety,” Insp Mason said.
“The recruitment process is under way, and we expect a new police officer to permanently fill the position in the next few months.”
It comes about a year after the station’s former sole officer, Leading Senior Constable Chris Westrope, retired from the post.
Over the interim, Leading Senior Constable Phil Armstrong has served as the Victoria Police officer staffing the station.
