The celebrations continued into the evening, with attendees having raided their wardrobes to embrace an ’80s theme.
From 8pm in the Main Lounge, the Rewind ’80s Mixtape Party took over, bringing the sounds and spirit of the decade back for a night.
Birthday week also featured ’80s-inspired cocktails and a special retro menu, adding another taste of nostalgia to the celebrations.
A club spokesperson said it was honoured to have original founding members Bill Yates and Gerald O’Dwyer join the celebrations to share memories from Sporties’ early days, along with special guest Mick O’Dwyer, who shared a few words.

“A big thank you to board member Gary Hunt for doing a fantastic job as emcee, and to everyone who joined us to celebrate this important milestone,” the spokesperson said.
Sporties first opened its doors in 1981, and has spent the past 45 years growing alongside the community, creating a place where people can come together.
From sporting celebrations and live entertainment to family gatherings, meals with friends and milestone occasions, Sporties has been the setting for countless memories in that time.
