A Deniliquin Fire + Rescue NSW appliance was first on scene.
Assistance was also provided by NSW Rural Fire Service strike team members from Yanco, Northern Beaches and the Northern Territory - in the local area to help with floods - with four RFS tankers.
The grass fire burnt a small area measuring 30m by 20m.
Deniliquin FRNSW Acting Captain Glenn Carr said the fire was sparked by slashing in the area.
He said the slashing machine likely had a faulty exhaust.
False alarm
Sirens rang out in the Deniliquin CBD just before 1pm on Wednesday.
Deniliquin FRNSW travelled a short distance to the Deniliquin Court House, but it was deemed to be a false alarm.
After checking the building, firefighters were soon headed back to the station.
Backyard burn
Firefighters were forced to extinguish a controlled burn in north Deniliquin on Thursday, as it was lit without the appropriate permit.
The occupant of the Davidson St home was reportedly burning wooden pallets in the backyard.
They were quickly extinguished, and the occupant was “advised of his responsibilities”.
