Now available across the week, the ultrasound service at the campus has received treatment of its own kind after construction finished last month on a brand-new fit-for-purpose room dedicated to diagnostic imaging.
For sonographer Emma McWhinney and her colleague Donna Mennie, the new arrangement is cause for celebration.
“It was very exciting when I got to move in,” Emma said.
Significantly, the room is now staffed five days a week, rather than just two to three days as before the upgrades.
The room also replaces an older, smaller room, which was part of the original hospital building, built in 1924.
Emma said the larger room had made her workflow more efficient.
“It’s definitely made things easier. The flow is a lot quicker. We are a very busy hospital, especially for medical imaging,” she said.
“There might be some speciality scans that we might not be able to perform here, but we always say to patients to ring up and have a chat with us. And we are more than happy to point you in the right direction if we can’t do them.”

The building of the new room was part of the NCN Health Cobram Campus redevelopment, made possible thanks to over $5 million from the Victorian Government’s 2020/2021 Regional Health Infrastructure Fund.
Most imaging services at the Cobram Campus are covered by Medicare.
They are available by appointment, and require a referral from a GP or other healthcare specialist.
