The crossings service Yarrawonga College P-12 (Gilmore Street) and Sacred Heart Primary School (Woods Road) and will be upgraded to raised pedestrian crossings.
Both schools supported Council’s submission for the upgrades and Moira Shire Council chair administrator, Dr Graeme Emonson welcomed the funding.
“Road safety is a high priority for Council,” Dr Emonson said.
“Projects like these align with Council’s goals in our Safe Routes to School Program and the Moira Shire Road Safety Strategy and Action Plan 2025-2030.”
The new raised crossings, sometimes called ‘wombat’ crossings, will improve pedestrian safety by making them more visible to drivers, who are required to slow down, and by providing a flat, continuous path for people with mobility issues.
The crossing works were identified through the School Safety Improvement Package, now part of the Safe Local Roads and Streets Program – a joint initiative between the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) and the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP).
Detailed designs of the upgrade works are in progress, with the works to be carried out in coming months.
