Member for Albury Justin Clancy said the NSW Government had provided $3.2 million for the upgrade which will include replacing the existing 80-year-old culverts over Wangamong Creek, about two kilometres west of the Riverina Highway intersection with Federation Way.
“The NSW Government is committed to delivering upgrades on the Riverina Highway and these works will provide a wider bridge to ensure the structure meets the latest safety standards,” Mr Clancy said.
“The current culverts will be replaced with wider culverts, widening the road by an extra 4.9 metres, including additional two-metre shoulders on either side of the traffic lanes.
Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Sam Farraway said the NSW Government was investing in local communities to ensure a brighter future for regional NSW.
“This work will improve road safety at this location by widening the carriageway and upgrading the safety barrier system to higher standards, while increasing the life of the structure, and reduce ongoing maintenance costs”.
Work will be carried out between 7am and 6pm on weekdays, starting Wednesday 15 June and is expected to be completed by late-November, weather permitting.
For the duration of the project, motorists will be detoured onto a side track built earlier in the year with reduced speed limits of 40 km/h in place.
OSOM vehicles over 4.5 metres wide will not be able to travel on the side track and will be detoured onto Redlands Road through Ringwood.
Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions, allow an extra five minutes of travel time and follow the directions of signs and traffic control.
Transport for NSW thanks the community for its patience while this important road and safety improvement work is carried out.
