“Everybody had very positive feedback from the night, saying that they really enjoyed it. It was a very good night,” organiser Judy Anderson said.
"The food was delicious, there were raffle tickets and an auction. It seems like it was a lot of fun for everyone.
“It was just a great way to kick off the festival.”
The annual event in Rochester, which runs from April 6 to 14, is a favourite among residents who get to hear about what inspired the art being unveiled, according to Ms Anderson.
“It was good to hear (the artists) talk about and explain their art. It’s always interesting,” she said.
“Everyone told me about how they love to hear about that and learn more about the context of the art and what it means. It makes seeing it during the week even more fun."
The art was popular with the crowd, with pieces like Helen English’s already finding new homes.
“It was great to see artwork sell on the night, and subsequently, we’ve sold a few more,” Ms Anderson said.
A trip to Rochester is advised if people are looking for something to do this week.
“I’d encourage everyone to come down and have a look. You can pick out your favourites and then, on Sunday at about 11am, the judges will give their verdict and announce the winners,” Ms Anderson said.
