Organisers proclaimed the inaugural Gynaecological Health Brunch on Sunday, September 21 a success, shining a spotlight on the importance of regular cervical screening in time for Gynaecological Cancer Awareness Month.
Soroptimists International of Cobram Barooga Inc member Jenny Gaylard said it was a successful day.
“All and all, I think the audience appreciated the information and learnt to be proactive with their own health needs,” she said.
The brunch featured two guest speakers in physiotherapist Anna Bruton of Anna B Physio and cancer survivor Kath Mazzella.
Ms Bruton shared her exceptional knowledge of issues affecting women’s health, including endometriosis.
Later, to her enthralled audience, Ms Mazzella shared her inspiring and personal story of how she overcame a diagnosis of vulva cancer, highlighting the importance of getting tested for cancers of the vulva.
Ending on a light note, she had the audience involved in a sing-a-long.
Over $2000 was raised for research into gynaecological cancer, an umbrella term for cancers that are found in the female reproductive system.
Fellow organiser Kay Morgan said the guest speakers were excellent in their presentations.
“Everyone thought it was great, it was very interesting, and they had a good day,” she said.
“I was very pleased with the number of people who supported such an important event.”
Every day, 19 Australian women are diagnosed with a gynaecological cancer, according to the Australia New Zealand Gynaecological Oncology Group.
