After two years of setbacks, the Deniliquin & District Historical Society has finally installed a new fence surrounding the Macauley St museum.
The money for the project was kindly provided through an Edward River Council Community Grant in 2024.
“Some time has passed, and the project was deferred due to inclement weather, but it has finally been completed, secretary Meg Christian said.
“The wooden fence was erected in 1993, replacing a wire fence, and an upgrade was definitely required for its preservation - time and the weather having taken its toll.
“Members of the Historical Society rely on the support of the community to maintain this historical site for the benefit of future generations, and the support received from Edward River Council is paramount in this.
“We greatly appreciate the assistance and support council consistently provides, to our Society and other community groups.
“The newly painted fence definitely enhances the appearance of the museum and ensures more years of providing an attractive border.”
The Deniliquin & District Historical Society Museum displays some of the town’s oldest treasures, in the freshest ways.
With such a large amount of information on everything ‘Deni’, there is something for everybody — from history buffs to farming enthusiasts.
The building alone is something to behold, and was once the police inspector’s residence.
The Historical Society is open every Tuesday and on Saturday mornings, and at other times by appointment.
It will be open Easter Saturday, and for Easter Monday visitors as well this long weekend.
