The state government has announced the launch of the nation’s first pet census.

The census will help to ensure pet owners have access to support and services they need, as well as improve pet care.

Minister for Agriculture Gayle Tierney announced the Victorian Pet Census on Friday, June 30, at the Australian Animal Protection Society in Keysborough and encouraged all pet owners to get involved.

“The Victorian Pet Census will gather vital information which will help shape the next generation of pet and animal welfare reforms,” Ms Tierney said.

“The Pet Census is a unique opportunity for pet owners from across the state to share their insights, opinions and experiences.”

Opening on Monday, July 3, at 10am, the pet census will ask Victorians a number of questions to gather information on pet ownership and the attitudes and experiences of owners, and will only take 15 minutes to complete.
