The change came into effect on December 31 and is part of the statewide decision to close all state-run PCR COVID testing clinics.
The closure has come about with the increased availability of rapid antigen tests and the consequent steep decline in demand for PCR tests.
Victoria’s nine remaining state-run mobile vaccination services, operated by local public health units, also ceased operations on December 31.
Moira Shire Council will provide free RATs to eligible members of the community and will be supported by the Victorian Government in doing so until June.
Those classified as eligible include those who are 70 years or older, a concession card holder or a person with a disability or who is immunocompromised or their carer.
Recipients must either show their concession, seniors or disability card to staff to collect their free RATs or let them know they are 70 years or older or immunocompromised.
Those suffering from symptoms or who have been in contact with someone who has COVID are advised not to collect RATs until they are well.
