Taking up position close to the coffee van, Chilli the Australian shepherd cross kelpie made it a bad day to be a puppuccino — but that worked out just fine by her.

The Maltese-cross found himself crowned Best Presented Dog at the recent official opening of the Cobram Off-Leash Dog Park, but the competition was tight for a reason.
On Thursday, August 14, a crowd of dog owners and their furry friends congregated at the corner of Gemmell and Karook Sts to celebrate the official opening of the park.
Dashing dachshunds, friendly fox-terriers and gregarious golden retrievers — you name it: if it had four legs and barked, it was there.

Buddy’s owner, Leanne, from Cobram, was looking forward to many trips to the park with her furry friend.
“I think it will be really good,” she said.
“I live not far from here, and I’ve got a pram for him as well if he needs it.”
The park was officially opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony following a speech by Moira Shire Council chair administrator Graeme Emonson.
“The facility would not be to the standard it is without the very generous donation of the Cobram Lions,” Dr Emonson told the crowd.
“I want to acknowledge the contribution of the Victorian Government, through Regional Development Victoria.”
The council project was supported by the Cobram Lions through a $10,000 donation, alongside a $62,000 grant from the government through Regional Development Victoria.
With the enclosed park open to unleashed dogs of all sizes and breeds, questions were raised over the safety of smaller dogs in the area.
But local owner Meghan, who expects to visit the park often with her two-year-old rescue puppy, Murphy, said it didn’t matter whether the dogs were large or small.
“It just comes down to responsible dog ownership,” she said.
