Not only does it have a new identity, new owners and well-trained local staff, the large number of people who enjoyed the café over the first week of opening indicates the professional concept will undisputedly lead to its success.
Two years ago, Daniel and Jade Ryan took over the Lakeside Café in Yarrawonga which they named Max’s on the Lake after their beloved kelpie Maxi.
The business has become a roaring success for the couple, and when an opportunity arrived for them to lease the café in Cobram, they didn’t hesitate.
Previously they operated a food truck at events held at the beach, which included the Australian Beach Volleyball Championships and also catered for the Disabled Olympics, which has enabled the couple to appreciate the uniqueness of the beachside location.
Sited on a large expanse of sandy beach abutting the great Murray River, the scenery is second to none and recognised broadly as the largest inland beach in Australia.

The couple could see the benefit of operating a permanent business in such a beautiful part of the region and have been totally blown away with the response from customers during their first week of operation at Max’s @ The Beach.
“We didn’t really know what to expect the first few days, but it has been amazing and on Saturday after the parkrun we were flat out serving coffee and breakfast to the runners while Sunday we cooked in excess of 200 meals, together with lots of coffee and cake, soft drinks and ice-creams,” Daniel said.
“Also, with groups of rowers competing over the weekend, we were kept constantly busy, but we loved the atmosphere and everyone seemed to be having a great time.”
Max’s @ The Beach is open from Wednesday to Friday 8am to 3pm and Saturday and Sunday from 7am to 3pm.
