Both libraries will have accessibility and usability improvements that are designed to transform them into contemporary spaces with 24-hour community access.
Member for Northern Victoria Mark Gepp said both libraries are a much-loved part of the community.
“Even more local people will be able to access the great services these libraries provide, and they can continue to serve the needs of the community for many years to come,” he said.
Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes said it was great to see the government support Goulburn Valley communities with the investment.
“Libraries are vital community assets and support communities to connect and access opportunities for learning and personal development,” she said.
The Living Libraries Infrastructure Program allows councils to set up new or improved library infrastructure and encourage lifelong learning.
The Victorian Government has invested more than $42 million into 109 such projects , allowing for a $297.2 million investment in new libraries, existing facility upgrades and library vans.
Local Government Minister Shaun Leane said the government is making large investments as part of the program.
“We’re making huge investments in libraries across the state through the Living Libraries Infrastructure Program — creating local jobs and ensuring Victorians have access to the resources they need in their own backyards,” he said.
Yarrawonga is also receiving $1 million from the program as part of the Yarrawonga Library, events and performance precinct development.
It will involve “wrapping” a modern library around the historic town hall to provide a hub designed to meet community needs while replacing the current overcapacity library.
The Goulburn Valley Regional Libraries Corporation is getting $120,120 as part of the Improved Mobile Library Services to Small Rural Communities Project, designed to increase collection access to 24/7 access as well as weekly mobile visits.
