NSW RFS requests temporary pause on harvesting

NSW Rural Fire Services has requested all harvest operators along the southern NSW border to immediately stop and check local weather conditions due to increasing risk of fire.

According to NSW RFS, the very high winds currently being experienced along the NSW southern border mean that there is a greater risk of fires being easily started and spreading rapidly.

Those conducting harvesting are strongly advised to do the following:

• Stop: Stop harvesting operations;

• Check: Check weather conditions, check the grain harvesting guide, and check your equipment;

• Decide: Only resume operations if safe to do so and regularly reassess the conditions.

The NSW RFS has said the consequences of fire breaking out can include the loss of both property and lives.

They can also cause economic catastrophe with the loss of millions of dollars worth of crops and equipment.
