The awards celebrate the volunteers, community champions, emerging talent and passionate individuals who make Moira a better place to live, work and play.
Moira Shire Council chair administrator Graeme Emonson said the awards were a wonderful opportunity to acknowledge the local legends who gave so much of themselves to their communities.
“I encourage everyone to take a moment to nominate someone who should be in the spotlight,” he said.
“Look around your town, club, group or organisation. You’ll find people who deserve to be recognised for their commitment — whether they’re working quietly behind the scenes or are achieving something special in their chosen fields.
“We know people aren’t seeking recognition when they step up for their communities, but it’s really important that we shine a light on their achievements and say thank you.”
There are six award categories: Citizen of the Year; Junior Citizen of the Year; Young Citizen of the Year; Community Event of the Year; Community Organisation of the Year; and Arts, Culture and or Environment Project of the Year.
Award recipients will be honoured at individual town ceremonies to be held on Australia Day 2027, hosted by Australia Day Committee representatives throughout the shire.
