The awards, established by Rural Health Pro in 2023, celebrate excellence in rural healthcare during Rural Health Month each November.
Both Governor-General Sam Mostyn and National Rural Health Commissioner Jenny May have confirmed their attendance at this year's ceremony.
Rural Health Pro Manager Jessica Rostas emphasised the importance of community participation.
“We have been delighted with the support these awards have received in the past — from the attendance of the governor-general, to receiving nominations from Australia's most remote communities,” she said.
“Whether you're a patient or peer, every nomination is an opportunity to express gratitude and acknowledge the extraordinary efforts of your local health professionals and organisations — or you can nominate yourself!”
Chair of the Rural Doctors Network Peter O'Mara highlighted the awards' significance for Indigenous healthcare.
“As a proud Wiradjuri man and rural GP, I am particularly pleased to see the support these awards have received from the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health sector,” he said.
The initiative, managed by Rural Health Pro, a social enterprise of the Rural Doctors Network, aims to inspire future generations to pursue careers in rural healthcare while celebrating current achievements.
Nominations can be peer, organisation, patient or self-nominated.
Nominations close August 11, and can be submitted at www.ruralhealthpro.org/s/awards
