New vehicle to assist learner drivers get their licence with L2P

Benalla’s TAC L2P Program continues to expand, with the most recent addition of a manual car to its fleet.

The TAC L2P Program is a community-based program developed to assist young learner drivers with limited access to vehicles and supervising drivers.

The addition of a Kia Picanto manual car will allow the program to help even more young people in the local community to be safe drivers on the roads.

Benalla Rural City Council Mayor Bernie Hearn said it was fantastic that young drivers could now enjoy the features of a new manual vehicle.

“We have seen young drivers grow and become confident to get their P-plates thanks to the TAC L2P Program,” Cr Hearn said.

“Not only will the new manual vehicle allow the mentors and drivers to be comfortable with new features, but there are also always enhanced safety functions that come with any new model of vehicle.

“The L2P Program is not only a fantastic way of improving road safety, but it also empowers our young learner drivers as a licence can lead to further education opportunities, employment, independence and a sense of achievement.

“We are always looking for both volunteer mentors and learners to take on the program.”

Cr Hearn acknowledged the sponsors who support the Benalla L2P Learner Driver Program, including Value Auto Group (Benalla Toyota and Ovens Kia); Tyrepower Benalla; Benalla Auto Club Inc; and Winton Motor Raceway.

The program is delivered by Benalla Rural City Council in partnership with the Department of Transport and Planning and the Transport Accident Commission.
