This facility, the first of its kind in the shire, is supported by the Circular Economy Councils Fund, delivered by Sustainability Victoria under the Victorian Government's circular economy policy.
The Resale Shed offers a second chance to discarded but still useable household furniture, toys, building materials, and more.
By reselling these items, the initiative aims to divert waste from landfills and extend the life of valuable resources.
“Our priority is to minimise waste generation and offer alternatives to landfill disposal,” Moira Shire Council chair administrator Graeme Emonson PSM said.
“Alongside the Resale Sheds, council has already introduced drop-off points for hard-to recycle items such as soft plastics and textiles to help us meet State and Federal targets of diverting 80per cent of waste away from landfill.”
The Cobram Resale Shed is just the beginning, with plans to open another at the Numurkah Resource Recovery Centre.
“We are excited to offer this resource to our community and look forward to the opening of the Numurkah Resale Shed, which will further our efforts towards a more sustainable future,” Dr Emonson said.
The Cobram Resale Shed is open every Wednesday and Sunday from 10am to 2pm. Note purchases are by eftpos only.
