New Cobram op shop opens

After an influx of donations, Cobram Youth Op Shop has opened a second store in town.

Shoppers can now find themselves a bargain in the heart of Cobram, with the op shop operating out of Bank St as well as the Jordan St store.

The new store stocks bric-a-brac, clothing, toys and books, while the Jordan St store continues to stock all items, including furniture.

Store manager Debbie Johns said the new shop had been busy since opening on March 9.

‘‘It’s because of the amazing support of the community that we’ve been able to open this second store,’’ she said.

‘‘This store is perfect in terms of foot traffic and to have enough items to open a second store is fantastic — we’ve been run off our feet.’’

The youth op shop has five new volunteers to help run the store and Ms Johns said the store was always looking for more.

‘‘We need a couple more, so if you can, come in store and let us know. You don’t have to spend the whole day here, as long as you can use the till you’re right,’’ she said.

The new store has changing rooms and will have a room full of toys, so shoppers can leave children while they shop.

‘‘Our stores are constantly re-stocked, so there are new things coming in every day,’’ Ms Johns said.

So far, thanks to community support, the op shop has donated more than $100000 to the cinema and $65000 in youth grants and scholarships.

Youth op shop administrator Robert Morey said the success of the stores was due to the community and volunteers.

‘‘We have such a committed manager and a wonderful group of volunteers that make the op shop a real standout,’’ he said.

‘‘The youth op shop and the youth of the district appreciate the support of the community with the donating and purchasing of goods.’’
