It may not have stopped a nation, but the Yarrawonga Lions’ second annual Dachie Cup did stop a few in their tracks.
With 73 dogs registered and hundreds of humans cheering them on, it was a day of wagging tails, short legs and even shorter attention spans.
Can someone get me out of this silly costume?
In the hotly contested Dachie Cup final, Murphy Brennan streaked home to first place, leaving Milkshake Martin and Oreo Kerr snapping at his heels.
“He’s trained hard for this,” Murphy’s proud human said.
“Mostly by chasing the postie.”
The Open Race saw the non-dachshunds have their moment, with Mollie taking top honours, while the Repechage was won by the speedy Peanut.

With 22 stallholders, live music from Les Brazil, face painting, and a wildly popular photobooth, there was plenty to keep the two-legged crowd entertained.
MC Brett Skinner of Elders kept the races rolling, and Fur Life Vet proudly took the spot as major sponsor.
Funds raised will support the Lions Club Assistance Dog Program.
Organisers are already planning next year’s event so mark your calendars for November 1, 2026, when the Dachies dash again.
