The championship yearly review, where the awards were given out, was conducted at the AROLMA annual general meeting in late July.
Barooga’s Stuart Eliott took out first in A-class, for racing mowers up to 450cc, while Gavin Barry from Berrigan scored second in the same class.
Berrigan’s Blake Barry placed first in B-class for up to 250cc mowers; he previously won the Australian titles in Forbes in the “outlaw” or open class.
Amber and Ned Eliott, both from Barooga, took out first and third place respectively in C-class for vehicles up to 200cc.
The group has accumulated points while they competed in races across the state, which add up to form the state champion in each class.
Stuart Eliott said it was good to see local people getting some prestige and notoriety in the sport across the state.
“It’s good to see that the country people are enjoying a good family oriented sport ... you can have everyone in the family racing,” he said.
“It’s good to see our local crew up here getting faces in every class ... we’ve got out lots of locals here who’ve raced against south-of-the-state people.”
Stuart explained the atmosphere at a lawnmower racing event was much more of a family atmosphere than some other motorsports.
“It’s just a great family atmosphere, like everyone helps each other in the pits, it’s just nice relaxed motorsport,” he said.
“The other key factor is we’re not racing for $10,000 ... it’s all charity, the funds we get from the race, all that money goes back into the local community.“
