Potential recruits are able to work across all Moira Shire pools from Nathalia to Yarrawonga.
A council spokesperson said there was no capped number of positions available.
“We need as many as possible,” they said.
Lifeguard positions are open to anyone over the age of 16 years old and there is no prior qualifications required as all training is provided by YMCA.
“(They) just (need) enthusiasm, and a love of working outdoors and with people.”
According to the council spokesperson job hours can work around the schedules of potential recruits’ other commitments, such as school or work, and there are career opportunities available for the right people.
For casual workers, such as students, being a lifeguard experience is often viewed favourably.
Recruits not only learn lifesaving skills, but also a range of soft skills as they interact with members of the community and take responsibility for the safety of others.
The council spokesperson said the lifeguard positions would fill an important community role and allow recruits to pursue an active job outdoors.
“What’s not to love,” the spokesperson said.
The push for new lifeguards comes as multiple outdoor pools around the Moira Shire area face reduced hours due to staff shortages.
