A police officer has allegedly been assaulted by a man on Tungamah’s main strip.

Authorities responded to calls for assistance after a man allegedly physically and verbally assaulted multiple people, including a local police officer, in Tungamah on Wednesday, September 17.
The alleged offending occurred on Middleton and Barr Sts around noon.
Victoria Police officers promptly arrested a 35-year-old man from Rainbow Beach, Queensland, after subduing him with capsicum spray.
The man faces nine charges, including two counts of trespassing on private property, three counts of unlawful assault, one count of make threat to kill, one count of assaulting police, one of affray and one of behave in a riotous manner in a public place.
No drugs or alcohol were found in his system at the time of his arrest.
Police understand the man had been in the area for a number of days.
The man was taken to Wangaratta Police Station, where he was refused bail, and is set to appear before the Wangaratta Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, September 18.
