Sporties Barooga’s Bullanginya Precinct has been awarded $4 million for major upgrades, including relocation of the works compound and construction of group accommodation for tourism.
Sporties Barooga president Darren Nolan said the project was a game-changer for the town and surrounding Murray-Darling Basin communities.
“This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for Barooga,” Mr Nolan said.
“The Bullanginya Precinct upgrade will not only create local jobs during construction but also bring more visitors, boost tourism and generate ongoing economic benefits for years to come.

“We are proud to be delivering a project that strengthens Barooga’s reputation as a vibrant regional destination, while supporting our local economy and providing new opportunities for families, businesses and community groups.”
A total of eight projects were funded in this first $16.3 million round, including the works at the Bullanginya Precinct.
Federal Environment and Water Minister Murray Watt said the investment was a key initiative under the government’s $300 million assistance package for Murray-Darling Basin communities, which is designed to minimise the potential social and economic impacts of water recovery measures.
“We’ve said from the start that the Murray-Darling Basin Plan will be delivered in a way that balances the needs of our communities, industries and environment,” Mr Watt said.
“Part of this commitment means creating the right support networks, jobs and infrastructure for our communities before any impacts are felt.”
State Agriculture and Regional NSW Minister Tara Moriarty said the initial round of funding was a direct response to what the NSW Government had heard from locals.
“I congratulate the successful applicants for stepping forward with projects that will protect livelihoods and build long-term resilience,” she said.
Construction on the Bullanginya Precinct upgrade is expected to begin in 2026.
