Schools across the district welcomed students back to on-campus learning on Friday.
“We were very pleased to hear the news that regional schools would return to face-to-face learning,” Cobram Anglican Grammar School principal Keith Willett said.
“We know families, students and teachers work well together during remote schooling but there is no substitute for the communication and interaction that transpires during face-to face teaching and learning.
“As well as the teaching and learning benefits, there's also the very positive social outcomes for students who get to see their friends and classmates when they are at school.
“We continue to be cautious and will be ensuring our school community continues to practice COVID-safe hygiene practices.”
But with restrictions remaining in place for Melbourne, resort and motel workers are still feeling the effects of lockdown.
“A lot of our weekend visitors are people from Melbourne so we've had some cancellations already and will see more for the long weekend,” Cobram Colonial Motor Inn owner Noel Smith said.
“Our cleaners haven't had to work this week because we've been pretty quiet.”
Barooga Pub manager Mark Delaney was also waiting for Melbourne's restrictions to lift.
“We’re still not going to be at 100 per cent for customer intake because there’s less travel of people out of Melbourne especially for the coming (Queen’s Birthday) long weekend,” he said.
“We all rely on tourists to a varying degree and any lockdown has a fairly big impact on us all.”
