Operating through a partnership with Mitchell Shire Council, national not-for-profit social enterprise and registered charity Resource Recovery Australia has launched a Reviva Reuse Shop at the Seymour Resouce Recovery Centre.
Residents will be able to find quality second-hand treasures at affordable prices, keeping valuable items out of landfill.
It will stock everything from furniture and books to toys, kitchenware, tools and garden supplies, with all donated electrical items tested and tagged for safety before sale.
Beyond positive environmental outcomes, the project is expected to deliver social impact locally, creating up to nine jobs across Seymour and Wallan, where a Reuse Shop will also open at the town’s Resource Recovery Centre.
The focus for these jobs will be on providing training and employment opportunities for people facing barriers to work.
Reuse Recovery Australia general manager Matt Curtis said the partnership was about strengthening communities through practical action.
“Every item we rescue and resell is one less thing going to landfill, and one more opportunity to support local jobs,” he said.
“We’re excited to work with Mitchell Shire Council to create welcoming Reviva Reuse Shops that deliver environmental and social benefits to residents in Wallan and Seymour.”
Mitchell Shire Mayor John Dougall said council was proud to welcome the Reviva Reuse Shops to Wallan and Seymour.
“These shops will deliver real environmental and social benefits for our community,” he said.
“We’re excited to see locals discover some great treasures while supporting a more sustainable future for our shire.”
The Reviva Reuse Shops will open on Saturday, March 14.
The shop locations are at 470 Seymour-Tooborac Rd, Seymour and 4-5 Freeway Dve, Wallan.
