On Thursday, September 24, Cobram’s St Joseph’s Primary School student leaders donated $200 for a paver which was the curtain closer for the cinema's fundraising drive.
School teacher Carmel Natalia said the school thought it was important to support community fundraisers.
“We know this cinema will be something our children will benefit from,” she said.
Cinema fundraising committee member Jenny Teal accepted the final cash injection and took the opportunity to thank everyone who made the Cobram Cinema a possibility.
“Our target for the paver fundraiser was $100,000 but we have actually exceeded that,” Ms Teal said.
“It’s a real credit to the people of Cobram and district and the wider community who supported the fundraiser, especially at such a hard time financially for many, due to the coronavirus crisis.
“The pavers will be laid out the front of the building in the form of film reels and a star walk,” she said.
The students were treated to a behind-the-scenes tour of the building from cinema committee secretary Rob Morey.
“The plan is to open hopefully around end of October, early November with our official opening to be held on November 25,” Mr Morey said.
“We have used local trades whenever we can and they have taken ownership of the project and have made suggestions and changes to improve the cinema.
“The only thing that’s left to do is install the chairs, the projectors, the speakers, that’s just about it.
“It been a real pleasure to be part of,” he said.
