That is the message put across by the Cobram and District Artist’s Society, which offers the chance for residents to exercise their creative tendencies onto a canvas or simply to wave a brush with like-minded company.
With members ranging from 40 to 87, the group meets at the Barooga community hall every Thursday, from 10 am to 3 pm and has access to various tutors throughout the year who lead skill-based sessions, while knowledge is freely shared among members, so everyone progresses together.
As an experienced artist herself, member Bev Caw attends the weekly sessions to hone her craft as well as using art as a therapeutic mechanism to unwind for a few hours.
“It provides enjoyment, experience and a place to catch up together,” she said.
“A lot of our members will say that art is good for the soul, it relaxes you and you totally forget where you are.”
The sessions are based around providing a totally inclusive culture and Mrs Caw invited anyone looking to express their brush-waving proclivities within a welcoming space.
“Feel welcome, come along and don’t feel you have to prove yourself – nobody is here to judge anyone.”
