Soroptimist International Shepparton made a big donation to two local charities on Monday.
Members of the organisation went to Salvocare on Wyndham St, Shepparton, on July 3 to donate 30 backpacks filled with essentials that homeless women may need to take care of themselves.
Another 30 backpacks will be donated to Beyond Housing.
Member Katrina Mooney was one of the attendees from the group at Salvocare and said all members in Shepparton helped to make the donation possible, and they just wanted to support the homeless population in any way they could.
“The statistics for homeless women in Shepparton at this stage are extremely high and we just rate ourselves fairly lucky that we’re not in that situation, and if we can help, we want to help,” she said.
The backpacks contain essential items such as deodorant, toothpaste and toothbrushes, beanies, scarves, socks, plates, cups, cutlery and information on where to obtain meals.
Ms Mooney was keen to thank all those who helped the organisation.
“Soroptimist International is extremely well supported in Shepparton,” she said.
“We’re very grateful to some of our sponsors, which have been Shepparton Lifestyle Village Social Club and Homeowners Committee for their donation, Officeworks, GV Water, Shepparton Variety Store at Riverside Plaza and many club members that have donated needed beanies, scarves and the like.
“We’re very, very grateful for anything that the Shepparton community can help supply to our club.”
