After a month of events being cancelled last year due to COVID-19 lockdowns, this year is set to go ahead.
Pilates, yoga and boot camp in the park, pickleball, badminton and table tennis events will be held throughout April, with the highlight being a 1.1 km walk that puts participants in the draw to win a Fitbit Charge 2 — all while being active and visiting local businesses.
NCN community nurse Andrea McColl said the aim of the walk was to get people up and active.
“But it’s also to encourage people to go into those local shops, and we’ve chosen shops that promote a healthy lifestyle,” she said.
“It’s also not just for kids, anyone can take part and we’ve chosen a route that is very accessible so people of all abilities can take part.”
The walk takes place around the Cobram CBD beginning at Cobram Newsagency where participants collect a postcard.
With eight stops along the way, participants need to visit each business to get a stamp, before returning to Cobram Newsagency and returning the postcard for a chance to win the prize.
“Kelly at Cobram Newsagency has been kind enough to offer the store as the start and finish of the walk,” Ms McColl said.
“Our role as health promotion nurses at NCN Health is to encourage people to get out and active, so going for a walk and getting out into the community is what it’s all about.”
The stop-offs include Cobram Newsagency, Noonan’s Showcase Jewellers, Artavilla Bicycles, Worklocker Cobram, Cobram Pet Supplies, Cobram Outdoors & Disposals and Intersport Wingate’s.
The competition is open for the month of April and is supported by Get Active Victoria.
