Now she is sharing her musical ability and passion as the newest teacher at South West Music’s Regional Conservatorium.
A capable musician, Gabbey has started providing one-on-one musical lessons. These are primarily individual vocal lessons, but also ukulele, guitar, integrated vocal and instrumental instruction including guitar and piano.
“I have a ukulele student, and I am also open to do guitar and incorporated music and singing,” she said.
Gabbey has also started the Glee Club in 2026 for primary school aged children from 3.30pm to 4.15pm on Tuesday afternoons and also the Mini Musicians sessions for youngsters up to four years old from 9.15am to 10am on Wednesday, both at the conservatorium.
“I’m really pleased with how well the first Glee Club session went,” she said.
“I have experience working with kids and that’s very helpful.”
Raised to appreciate music, Gabbey was inspired to be the most recent person in her family to teach music in Deni.
“I grew up in a very musical house. My Mum was a singing teacher and as a single parent she taught at home every day after school, so I was surrounded by music lessons all that time.
“My Nan, Bev King, taught piano in Deniliquin until the day she died. That kind of gave me the push to go for it.”
Gabbey has recently finished studying creative arts and health with the University of Tasmania.
She started with seven students, and is now up to 24, not including Glee Club.
Gabbey’s favourite part about teaching is witnessing the musical growth of students in many areas and helping them see what they can achieve.
“I believe everyone can sing, and everyone has musicality in them, but people who don’t have the nurturing around them at home can miss out on exploring what I believe everyone can do,” she said.
