Since the first parkrun was held in Cobram on July 2, 2016, walkers, runners and volunteers have met at Thompsons Beach every Saturday to take part in a timed, 5 km run along the river and around Quinn Island.
Cobram parkrun event co-director Tim Roadley said plenty of locals dressed up in colourful outfits to celebrate the anniversary.
“The committee encouraged participates to wear bright colours to liven up the cold winters day,” he said.
“In the last five years the event has had serial challenges; floods causing cancellation and course changes, extreme weather conditions from both heat and storms, falling trees over the course and, of course, the COVID-19 lockdowns.”
Cobram's parkrun is a community event run by volunteers.
The latest parkrun — event number 206 — was held thanks to the help of volunteers Mr Roadley, Sue Barnes, Cheryl Finch, Jeanette Grant, Emma Skehan, Holly Robinson, Joan and Greg Boyer and Samantha Mantovani.
Five first timers joined other locals, enjoying the run, jog or walk around the course.
Results are collected so runners can track their progress and, this week, Sue Keating and Melissa Sutcliffe recorded a personal best.
Since it started, 2615 participants have completed 17,702 parkruns in Cobram, covering a total distance of 88,510 km, including 2817 personal bests.
A total of 441 individuals have volunteered 2481 times.
