Moira Shire Council is inviting residents, volunteers and emergency services personnel to help document the story of the January 2026 Yarroweyah fire event.
Those affected by the fires are invited to record interviews or submit photographs, videos or recordings, personal reflections or written stories.
A film crew from Shon Productions will be in Moira Shire from Friday, August 28 to Sunday, August 30.
A documentary will be produced aiming to capture the perspective of those impacted by the fires.
Moira Shire Council chair administrator Dr Graeme Emonson said the project would play an important role in the region’s recovery.
“Rebuilding infrastructure and restoring services are important acts for the community; however, recovery is about more than that,” Dr Emonson said.
“It is also about recognising experiences, acknowledging loss, honouring emergency efforts, while also preserving community history and ensuring important stories are not lost,”
“Projects like this provide an opportunity for people to reflect on their experiences, acknowledge the challenges faced, and celebrate the strength shown by communities during and after the event.”
