The draft outlines a levee stretching from the old Echuca-Moama bridge surrounding Echuca East as far as Snowden St.
The alignment has been adjusted from the earlier version to provide added shared path access points to the forest, and a revised drainage basin to service an upgraded Mitchell St drainage pump station.
This basin will be created by moving the new levee north of the existing levee between Hovell and Pakenham Sts, providing improved drainage and buffering to nearby houses.
The design also includes a concrete wall to strengthen the water treatment plant levee, with demountable sections across Goulburn Rd and Middle Track access to the forest.
The proposed levee aims to provide reliable flood protection. A community reference group helped to guide the preliminary design.
Mayor Daniel Mackrell encouraged community members to review the plans either in person or online via the council’s website.
“A great deal of consultation has already taken place to reach this stage,” he said.
“We remain committed to working closely with residents, so the final design truly reflects local needs and priorities.”
