They include six Australian hard (AH) milling varieties and two Australian noodle wheat (ANW) varieties.
One feed variety has also been introduced on the Master List.
“The 2026-2027 Wheat Variety Master List is published as part of ongoing efforts to support the global competitiveness of Australian wheat and uphold the quality standards required by the industry,” Grains Australia classification general manager Dr Megan Sheehy said.
“Grains Australia continues to work closely with our Wheat Council and industry to ensure the delivery of a market-driven variety classification system that meets customer requirements while supporting grower profitability.”
Grains Australia, an initiative of the Grains Research and Development Corporation, works across the grains value chain to improve market access, align what markets need with what Australia provides, and build long-term value for growers, industry and customers.
The eight new varieties classified are:
- AGT-Agile
- AGT-Glamour CL Plus
- AGT-Trigg
- IG Collie
- IG Quokka
- Kestrel
- LRPB Hurdle
- Packer.
The feed variety is called ULTIM8.
In addition, 11 varieties have been removed from the 2026-2027 Wheat Variety Master List after consultation with industry, having first been flagged for removal in 2024 and delivered in existing classes up until 2025.
Based on decreasing production thresholds, five varieties are planned for removal in 2027, including Harper, King Rock, Kiora, LRPB Viking and Mitch.
In 2028, 15 varieties are planned for removal, including Impress CL Plus, Hydra, Cosmick, Sunlamb, Hatchet CL Plus, Bremer, DS Newton, DS Darwin, Heckto, Ovalo, Jade, Tenfour, B53, Yitpi, and Chara.
The list records the highest possible class available for respective zones, noting that the varieties are then subject to each season’s Grain Trade Australia (GTA) Wheat Standards upon delivery.
