Almost seven weeks since Benalla artist Tim Bowtell finished the artwork, an ever-increasing number of tourists are visiting the site.
“The (Queen’s Birthday) long weekend was just incredible, absolutely crazy,” Colbinabbin Silo Art Trail committee member Sadie Vale said.
“I estimate that we had 1000 cars visit over that three days, but every day we’re seeing a steady stream of cars ... I don’t see that changing because of this latest COVID-19 lockdown.”
Federal Member for Nicholls Damian Drum inspected the silos on Friday.
Mr Drum said he was thrilled to have been able to successfully advocate for $20,000 of Federal Government funding for the further development of the silo viewing area.
“It’s just fantastic to see the community spirit on display here,” he said.
“The Colbinabbin community has made this happen and it will benefit from tourists spending a few dollars while they’re in town, even if it’s just a sandwich and a coffee.”
The funding, announced last month as part of the Tackling Tough Times Together grants program, will be matched by the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal.
Mr Drum said the upgrade and beautification of the area surrounding the silos would boost local pride, tourism numbers and the local economy.
“The local hotel is being upgraded and I encourage anyone visiting the silos to spend some time there,” he said.
