The groups will be changed every few months, so various organisations can benefit from the scheme.
Cobram Lions Club chairperson Janet Austin said it was “absolutely wonderful” what Foott was doing.
“It's great that they're giving back to the community,” she said.
The Cobram Lions Club has already raised over $13,000 for access to dialysis services in Cobram and plans to put the money raised for the club towards that as well.
“It’s a service that the town really needs, and we saw it as an opportunity to raise some money for that purpose,” Ms Austin said.
“It's something the town is going to need going forward, and we're in a good position now to help.”
FOOTT chief executive Andrew Yeoland said the new initiative was designed to make it easier for people to support local community groups when visiting the CDS Vic depots.
“Our team process the containers, with funds transferred directly to the nominated community group via the CDS Vic app,” Mr Yeoland said.
“The program is also running in Benalla, supporting the Benalla Woodworkers’ shed appeal to help fund the construction of a new shed.
“FOOTT is proud to be a leading provider of waste, recycling and event solutions across Victoria and southern NSW.
“Since opening in November 2023, we have processed more than 65 million eligible containers, returning over $6 million to regional communities.”
Locals can donate cans to the Cobram Lions Club at FOOTT, or place them in the new community bin.
“If they just want to drop one or two cans in the tub, that’s fine — at the end of the day, everything adds up,” Ms Austin said.
