A man who was caught driving at twice the legal alcohol limit was picked up by police again eight months later at more than three times the limit.
Andington Tuku, from Vanuatu, pleaded guilty in Shepparton Magistrates’ Court to two charges of drink-driving and one of being a learner driver who was driving without a supervisor.
The court heard Tuku recorded a blood alcohol concentration of 0.104 when he was stopped by police while driving in North St, Shepparton on April 7 last year.
At the time he was driving on a Vanuatu driver’s licence.
He was caught drink-driving again on December 27, blowing 0.183 when he was pulled over in McDonald St, Shepparton.
He was driving on a Victorian learner’s licence and did not have a supervising driver with him.
Tuku told police at the time he had been celebrating the first birthday of his only child.
The court was also told Tuku had a prior court appearance in 2023 for failing to do a breath test, and also had other relevant priors in Queensland.
Tuku was fined $250 and his driver’s licence was disqualified for 20 months.
