It can be difficult to work out what to do with the kids during the school holiday break, to find a way to keep them active and not holed up inside on the iPad or watching TV.

Skillzone may have just solved this problem. It’s not a daycare service but an environment where kids can go to be active, get involved in team-based activities and make friends.
The multi-sports company initially began in Cobram and has been running for about 12 years.
Skillzone owner Adam Gatcum said the school holiday program was so well received that the team decided to expand into other areas such as Shepparton, Yarrawonga and Wangaratta.
“Predominantly, we deliver our programmes to primary school-aged children, but we do accept enrolments for children as young as five all the way through until 14,” he said.
“There’s a wide variety of different sports; they’ll try many mainstream sports like basketball, soccer, netball, and they’ll have a go at things like pickle ball.
“We run a lot of team-based activities too, things like dodge-ball, capture the flag ... and then sometimes we’ll complement our program with things like a movie afternoon.”

Mr Gatcum said when he was a kid he loved being active and playing with his mates, so the idea behind the program was to create a place where kids could get together with their friends, be active and have fun.
“It was about trying to deliver a program that I myself would like to have attended when I was a child,” he said.
“As well as obviously delivering a safe and secure environment for the kids, we want to make it exciting and a place where the kids leave and want to come back to.
“We try to give our team leaders the flexibility and freedom to get a feel for their groups and exactly what they feel will be best received ... we pride ourselves on being energetic, enthusiastic and approachable,” he said.
The program runs every school holidays across four different locations, all at indoor venues.
