Decrease in crime across Moira Shire

Moira Shire recorded a 12 per cent decrease in crime in 2022.

The latest state government statistics show that there were 1474 criminal incidents in 2022, a reduction from 2021’s statistic of 1675 incidents.

Criminal incidents in all major population centres within Moira Shire were down with the exception of Nathalia.

There were a total of 2048 offences recorded which is a 12.8 per cent drop from the 2349 recorded in 2021.

Cobram still had the highest number of total offences recorded, 620, with Yarrawonga coming in second with 451.

Yarrawonga, Nathalia and Strathmerton all had an increase in offences recorded in 2022 compared to 2021.

There were 41 criminal incidents involving sexual offences which was a slight increase from the 39 in 2021.

Moira Shire also saw 194 assaults and related offences and 523 family incidents in 2022.

There were 25 criminal incidents of arson, 146 criminal incidents involving property damage and 124 burglary and break-and-enter incidents.
