The Crime Statistics Agency has released its latest round of data profiling reported crime across Victoria for the year April 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025.
Cobram, the second-largest town by population in the shire after Yarrawonga, continues to lead the way as the town with the most offences recorded, followed by Numurkah, Yarrawonga, Nathalia and Katamatite.
Compared to the year ending March 2024, the number of recorded offences in Cobram has increased by about 2.4 per cent.
The number of recorded offences also rose in Numurkah.
Inversely, Yarrawonga saw a significant decline in recorded offences, down more than 21 per cent.
A recorded offence is any reported criminal act committed by a person or organisation for which they could face a penalty under the Victorian legal system.
Similarly to the previous round of results, the most common type of recorded offence in the shire was breach of a family violence order.
Breaches of family violence order rose more than 18 per cent from the last round of data.
Other theft and criminal damage also rose by 24 per cent and 2 per cent.
The top location for crime over the past year was in a house, followed by streets, lanes and footpaths, and retail.
More broadly, the crime rate in the shire is below that of the state at large, with Moira at 8577 to Victoria’s 8838.7 offences per 100,000 people.
Across Victoria, the crime rate increased by 15.2 per cent from the previous 12 months.
The local government area of Melbourne recorded the highest crime rate in the state, with 17,792.1 criminal incidents per 100,000 population.
Importantly, the impact of the Vctorian Government’s bail laws, which didn’t come into force until March 28, is not evident in the latest figures.
