Moira Shire Council, Greater Shepparton City Council and Campaspe Shire Council formally signed an Economic Accord on Thursday, July 24.
Moira Shire Council chair administrator Graeme Emonson highlighted the importance of agricultural and manufacturing sectors.
“Working alongside Greater Shepparton and Campaspe is a great way for us to address common challenges that face our broader region and advocate for stronger outcomes,” he said.
The accord aims to co-ordinate strategies and shared principles for business support, investment attraction and addressing regional challenges like the impacts of water buybacks.
“Moira Shire is proud to execute the Economic Accord with Greater Shepparton and Campaspe as it symbolises the strength of unity when it comes to supporting each other on localised matters while maintaining a regional focus for growing and diversifying our economy,” Dr Emonson said.
“Whether it's addressing the impacts of water buybacks, supporting our manufacturers, or building resilience against future challenges, we're stronger when we work together with our neighbouring councils to secure local jobs and a bright economic future for northern Victoria.”
Greater Shepparton mayor Shane Sali said it was fantastic to now get the partnership signed and under way.
“The Economic Accord lays the groundwork for attracting investment, enhancing job opportunities and addressing the unique challenges faced by our collective regional economies,” Cr Sali said.
The agreement follows extensive consultation with local manufacturers, industry leaders and community representatives.
Mitigating the impacts of water buybacks, supporting manufacturing and advocating for key infrastructure upgrades were three of five key priorities identified at a manufacturer’s roundtable in February.
Other key priorities for regional advocacy include promoting the development of workforces and pushing for further investment in Queensland Fruit Fly control.
Campaspe Shire mayor Daniel Mackrell welcomed the regional initiative.
“Campaspe Shire Council is thrilled to be part of a unified approach and ongoing collaboration and advocacy initiatives to promote regional economic prosperity,” he said.
