At its July general meeting, Moira Shire Council administrators voted to approve a motion to authorise chief executive Matthew Morgan to sign a renewed four-year memorandum of understanding with the Goulburn Murray Climate Alliance.
Chair administrator Dr Emonson said a report, included in council’s agenda and documenting the financial and environmental benefits of council’s membership in the Alliance, spoke for itself.
“The report does set out the substantial return on investment and the benefits that have been achieved through this regional collaboration, in the space of managing climate,” Dr Emonson said.
“I’m very happy to move a motion to continue our involvement in the Goulburn Murray Climate Alliance.”
The motion was seconded by administrator Susan Benedyka.
Ms Benedyka was also appointed to the board of the GMCA as council’s representative.
“I’m very happy to be appointed to the Climate Alliance board as council’s representative,” Ms Benedyka said.
Council’s membership to the GMCA for 2025-26 costs $13,848.75, excluding GST, according to the report.
The GMCA was founded in 2007, and brings together 15 councils and business with the Victorian Government to act on solutions to climate change through research and projects.
Other member councils include the Campaspe and the Strathbogie shire councils.
The GMCA brings together government and industry groups to address climate change.
