Cobram and Katamatite business owner Ricky Millar said the fires were “very close to home” with his brother a part of the Cobram CFA unit that was caught in a burnover.
“It’s a very close community, and it (the Yarroweyah fire) impacted both Cobram and Katamatite,” he said.
“A lot of my customers and regulars were impacted.
“I have friends who lost everything.”
Mr Millar owns both the Boosey Creek Tavern in Katamatite and the Grand Central Hotel in Cobram with his family.
They will be holding a comedy night at the Boosey Creek Tavern on Friday, February 20 at 7pm, to raise money for the local firefighters.
Mr Millar said all the money raised would be split between the Cobram and Katamatite CFAs.
The comedy night will feature comedians Chris Wainhouse, Marty Fields and Brendan Lovegrove.
There will also be a special performance from the comedian and Mick Jagger impersonator known as ‘Mick Shagger’.
