The championships will be held from April 6 to 14.
This is the first time Xavier will compete at a national competition in the 14 year-old age group.
Xavier is in Year 9 at Kildare Catholic College in Wagga, where he is a boarding student.
His mother Naomi said he is feeling good ahead of the championships.
“I think he’s feeling a bit anxious about it, and pretty excited as well,” she said.
Naomi said Xavier is “very passionate” about his swimming and has excelled with his training.
“He’s been swimming forever, basically, although once he got into high school, he’s been taking it very seriously.
“He puts the work in, and he’s been training very hard.”
Given the high standard of competition, Xavier’s qualification for the highest level of junior swimming in Australia has been described as “exceptional”.
“Qualification is pretty cut-throat at the national level,” Naomi said.
“There are examples where someone could miss out by one hundredth of a second.
While the location of the championships will bring its challenges, Naomi said it would be a good experience for Xavier.
“We’ll fly up for April.
“Xavier will go up a few days earlier to train with his team there.
“It’s a lot of travel, but it’ll be good for him to see what it’s like and get a feel for the Australian Age championships.“
