But home advantage meant nothing as the Cobram team took down their northern hosts, 82 to 40.
Cobram dominated all four quarters of the game, though Finley came within four points (34-30) in the second quarter.
Cobram’s Jackson Trengove proved a menace to Finley’s defence, kicking four goals, a game-high.
Cobram’s best were Timothy Garlick, Izac Artavilla, Luca Allen, Samuel Beasley, Hunter Verhoeven and Alec Ritchie, while Finley’s standouts were Charlie Lang, Kayden Sharp, Mark Whiley, Nicholas Bertino, Tom Lang and Nik Burns.
Cobram coach Tyron Baden said it felt like it was a well-deserved victory.
“We ended up running over Finley at the end, but it was pretty tight at three-quarter time,” he said.
"Our fitness proved to be the match difference."
Baden hopes Cobram's next game, which will be played at home against Echuca, will see a similar performance delivered.
While Cobram was victorious, it wasn’t meant to be for their arch-rivals Barooga.
Playing on their home turf didn’t prevent a thumping by fellow NSW team Mulwala.
Mulwala dominated each quarter, with Connor Griffiths, Dylan McNamara, William Gorman, Matthew Gorman, Charley McKenna, and Harry Haley among the best.
Charlie Ingham, Angus Cameron, Riley Gow, Lachlan Harris, William Robinson and Logan Hollister were Barooga’s best.
