Amabel Grinter and Bianca Phillips have been named Rural Ambassador and Junior Ambassador for the district respectively.

The Goulburn Valley Riverina Shows Association dinner was held on March 30 at Shepparton’s Overlander Hotel.
Cobram and district was represented by Ms Grinter, Ms Phillips, Margaret Watson, Dossie Parnel, Gabby Wilkins, Maree Logan, Felicity Geisler, Connor and Emily French.
‘‘I think it’s a great opportunity for self-development and to improve your communication skills,’’ Ms Grinter !said.
‘‘It’s a great honour that I’ve been chosen to go forward this far.
‘‘Personally, I hope this can be a platform for me to have a voice to promote rural communities and the importance of being involved in them.’’
Ms Phillips was shocked when her name was read out as the winner.
‘‘I wasn’t expecting it,’’ she said.
‘‘I was just honoured to be asked to represent here and I’m thrilled and over the moon (to have won).’’
The dinner also saw awards go to participants in cooking, sewing, patchwork, crocheting and photography.
While it was the ambassador winners who shone the brightest, the results for fellow Cobramites in the Victorian Agricultural Shows competition were:
●Margaret Watson, second place — rich fruit cake;
●Dossie Parnel, second place — carrot cake;
●Gabby Wilkins, second place — boiled fruit cake, and;
●Maree Logan, second place — sewing and crochet.
At the association dinner, Felicity took out first for her decorated cupcakes and lemon slice, while Ms Watson scored first for her sponge cake and shortbread.
The French family have budding chefs in Connor and Emily, with Connor scoring first prize for his chocolate crackles and decorated Marie biscuits and Emily coming in second for her chocolate crackles.
‘‘We’re very proud of all of our competitors and we wish Bianca and Amabel all the best for their upcoming competitions and thank everyone for these support,’’ Cobram Show president Karen Creighton said.
The two representatives will take part int he state finals in June.
